As part of the tourney entry, Hawn (11-1 MMA, 3-1 BFC) has signed a new extension with the organization, though terms of the deal were not disclosed
Hawn, a judoka who finished ninth in the 2004 Summer Olympics, moved his MMA record to 11-0 with a split-decision victory Lyman Good earlier this year in Bellator’s season-four welterweight-tourney semifinals. However, he fell short of a guaranteed title shot and suffered his first career loss when he dropped a close split decision to notable Jay Hieron in the finals.
The 5-foot-9 fighter will join another Bellator tournament, but this time he’ll do so in a lighter weight class when the eight-man tourney kicks off in March.
“I felt like I was sort of undersized in the last tournament,” Hawn told MMAjunkie.com. “Everyone had a height advantage on me, and while I thought I made a good run, I think lightweight is going to be a better fit for me and just give me an advantage. “Camp will pretty much be the same for me, even though I’m cutting to 155. I’m going to work on getting quicker while keeping my core strong. (I’m) just ready for the tournament to start and make a strong run.”
Hawn, who made his pro MMA debut in early 2009, also owns Bellator victories over LeVon Maynard and Jim Wallhead. A regional-show TKO win over UFC vet Shonie Carter ultimately got him signed by Bellator.
